Not another phrasebook

You don't need more grammar. You need to survive the counter, the table, and the taxi.

Most people who "study Spanish" can conjugate verbs and still freeze the moment a real person asks them a real question. That's because most books teach grammar, not scenarios.

Sofía has lived in more than 35 countries and taught Spanish to travelers, expats and remote workers the whole way. Spanish with Sofís is built the way she actually teaches: short, predictable, real exchanges — migration, ordering food, asking for help — with the one cultural detail that makes you sound like a local instead of an app.

Every chapter follows the same shape: the scene → the phrases you'll actually say → what to do when it goes wrong → a tip only someone who's lived it would know.

Cultural tip · from Sofía

In Latin America, we start almost everything with "Disculpe." It's not just "excuse me" — it's the key that opens any conversation with a stranger. Lost, confused, need help? Start with "Disculpe..." and the rest flows. Without it, you sound abrupt. With it, you sound polite even if the sentence after it is full of mistakes.

"If you land at your hotel without having asked for help in Spanish at least once, you didn't really arrive."

— Sofía · closing Chapter 01
Who's teaching you

Sofía isn't a character built for this book. The book is built around her.

Line illustration of Sofía Gil holding a passport

Sofía Gil is a Colombian teacher who has lived in more than 35 countries — and taught Spanish in almost as many, always the same way: through conversation, role-play, and scenarios you'll actually live through, not grammar drills you'll forget by the airport gate.

She teaches standard Latin American Spanish with the everyday warmth of her own Colombian accent. Her community follows her for exactly that: real, warm, unfiltered Spanish, not textbook Spanish.

This book and its Academy are her classroom, packaged so it travels with you.
